I keep noticing this about great leaders…

Hi Reader,

Welcome back to The Clarity Letter.

The more time I spend working alongside leaders, the more I notice something interesting.

Some of the most effective leaders create a sense of calm around execution.

Their teams understand what matters.

People know where decisions sit.

Priorities feel visible.

Conversations lead somewhere.

And there's a rhythm to how work moves.

What fascinates me is that this sense of calm often has very little to do with the amount of work happening.

These organizations can be incredibly ambitious.

Multiple initiatives.

Growing teams.

New partnerships.

Major strategic priorities.

Yet there is still a sense of direction.

I've come to believe that one of the greatest gifts a leader can give a team is clarity.

Because clarity creates confidence.

Think about the difference between hearing:

"We need to improve this."

and:

"Here's the outcome we're working toward, here's why it matters, and here's who will lead the next step."

Same ambition.

Very different experience.

This is also why I believe operational clarity is a leadership responsibility, rather than simply an operations function.

When leaders consistently create clarity around three things...

What matters most?

Who owns what?

What does success look like?

...teams have a much stronger foundation for execution.

And something else begins to happen.

People become more confident making decisions.

Collaboration becomes more intentional.

Meetings become more purposeful.

Leadership gains greater visibility.

And the organization develops a stronger execution rhythm.

That's the kind of transformation I love helping organizations create.

Because sometimes growth calls for another strategy.

And sometimes growth calls for creating the operating environment that allows the strategy you already have to come alive.

So here's something to consider this week:

When your team leaves a conversation with you, do they leave with greater clarity about what happens next?

That might be one of the most valuable measures of leadership.

Until next Tuesday,

Keep creating the clarity that helps people do their best work.

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. We're getting closer to the end of the year. And around this time, conversations naturally start shifting toward 2027. New goals. New revenue targets. New programs. New hires. New clients. New initiatives. I love those conversations. But there's another question I think deserves a seat at the planning table: What are we carrying into 2027 that we've already outgrown? Maybe it's the spreadsheet that made perfect sense when there were 20 clients....

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. One of my favorite moments in this work is watching someone experience a process after it has been redesigned. Because sometimes the transformation sounds almost too simple. Something that once required: Opening a spreadsheet. Checking another system. Copying information. Sending an email. Creating a reminder. Following up later. Updating the spreadsheet again. …becomes one connected workflow. Information comes in. It goes where it belongs. The...

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. A while ago, I was looking at a process with a team when the Chief Executive Officer said something that made me smile: “I know we have a system for this somewhere…” And there it was. The organization had tools. Plenty of them. A CRM. Spreadsheets. Shared folders. Forms. Email. A project management platform. Each one had been introduced for a good reason. But over time, the team had created its own ways of getting things done. One person tracked...
