Can you just send me an update?

Hi Reader,

Welcome back to The Clarity Letter.

There’s a sentence that always makes my operations brain curious:

“Can you just send me an update?”

Nothing unusual about the question.

Leaders need visibility.

But I’m always interested in what happens next.

Does someone open three spreadsheets?

Message two colleagues?

Check the CRM?

Search through email?

Update a PowerPoint?

Then spend an hour pulling everything together?

If that happens regularly, I start thinking about the system behind the update.

Because there’s a difference between having information and having visibility.

Most organizations have plenty of information.

It lives in spreadsheets.

CRMs.

Project management platforms.

Finance systems.

Shared drives.

Email.

Forms.

And sometimes inside people’s heads.

The opportunity is connecting the right information so that the people making decisions can see what matters when they need it.

Imagine opening one dashboard and being able to see:

What’s moving?

What requires attention?

Where capacity sits.

What customers are doing.

How programs or projects are performing.

What the numbers are telling you.

Now the leadership conversation changes.

Instead of:

“Where are we?”

You can spend more time asking:

“What should we do next?”

That’s one of the reasons I care so much about systems and operational visibility.

A good system does more than store information.

It helps people make better decisions.

So here’s this week’s question:

What information does someone on your team regularly have to chase down, compile, or ask another person for?

That answer may point you toward your next workflow improvement.

And if your organization has reached the point where your processes, CRM, workflows, or internal systems need to work together more intentionally, that’s one of the areas I help organizations design and implement, not simply recommend.

Until next Tuesday,

Keep creating the clarity that helps people do their best work.

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. We're getting closer to the end of the year. And around this time, conversations naturally start shifting toward 2027. New goals. New revenue targets. New programs. New hires. New clients. New initiatives. I love those conversations. But there's another question I think deserves a seat at the planning table: What are we carrying into 2027 that we've already outgrown? Maybe it's the spreadsheet that made perfect sense when there were 20 clients....

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. One of my favorite moments in this work is watching someone experience a process after it has been redesigned. Because sometimes the transformation sounds almost too simple. Something that once required: Opening a spreadsheet. Checking another system. Copying information. Sending an email. Creating a reminder. Following up later. Updating the spreadsheet again. …becomes one connected workflow. Information comes in. It goes where it belongs. The...

Hi Reader, Welcome back to The Clarity Letter. A while ago, I was looking at a process with a team when the Chief Executive Officer said something that made me smile: “I know we have a system for this somewhere…” And there it was. The organization had tools. Plenty of them. A CRM. Spreadsheets. Shared folders. Forms. Email. A project management platform. Each one had been introduced for a good reason. But over time, the team had created its own ways of getting things done. One person tracked...
